CARE defines coaching as: A formal process between a manager and direct report that enables one to improve his or her work-related knowledge or skills. The goal of coaching is to improve an employee’s effectiveness on the job.
CARE defines counseling as: The process of exploration between a manager and direct report about professional and/or personal issues in order to help the employee take self-directed action to achieve his or her goals.
