At CARE, our tendency is to think of work in terms of projects, because that is the way that it typically gets organized and financed. As a result, we tend to assume that each project is unique and non-replicable. And yet, in reality, many projects involve a similar set of repeatable activities. By adopting a process view, we can clearly identify, prioritize and improve the activities that need to take place every time. This improves the quality of the work we do and its efficiency.
Process analysis can help CARE country offices in the following ways:
- To be more effective in programming by delivering consistent service across projects and sectors.
- To introduce new programs or to develop a program focus by identifying the key activities that are common across the organization.
- To develop the capacity of CARE and partner organization staff by identifying the set of skills needed to support key activities
- To enable knowledge sharing by understanding the common elements between projects and sectors.
